This information has been developed and written by a Bible believing Christian who accepts the Bible as the inspired Word of God. If you are an atheist or believer in any faith other than the Judeo-Christian faith, you may not agree with my opinions or interpretation of events found in the book of Genesis. If you wish to engage me in a debate over the existence of God, or the validity of another belief system in comparison to Judeo-Christianity, you will be greatly disappointed: I won’t be drawn into such debates. I find no Biblical evidence that I must in anyway spend my time trying to convince others that my belief is better or more correct than theirs. 1 Peter 3:15 tells us to
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect… (NIV)
Peter does not say that I need to justify my belief, only that I must give the reason for my hope that is in Christ Jesus. For this reason, I will happily tell you what I believe and why, but I will not debate the validity of it.
If you wish to have an open, honest discussion about what I believe or why I have written anything that I have on this site or in my books, I would be more than happy to entertain your questions. Any and all comments are welcome, but I will not respond to rude or disrespectful messages. We all have a right to our opinions and I humbly offer mine for your review here, but I acknowledge that they are my opinions and I claim no special insight or divine understanding other than the discernment that I believe God has gifted to all believers.
Why Genesis
The book of Genesis has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. At some point in the near future, I hope to have all of the information contained in this site available in book form for you to order and have in its entirety, but for now, this web site will have to due.
In addition to Genesis: Facts and Fictions, I have written a work of fiction that tells the story of the first 11 chapters of Genesis The Witness Chrinicles: Summit on Ararat The second book in the series, The Table of Nations, is currently available on Amazon.com. That aside, I developed this website accompany my Witness Chronicles series as an open forum for discussion about the Book of Genesis and Man’s fall from grace. Next to John’s Revelation, Genesis is the most cryptic book in the entire Bible. Not that it is as full of the kind of mysterious imagery that Revelation is, but simply because it says so much, yet leaves us with so many questions.
All we know and understand about creation and the world before the flood comes from this sparsely documented tale of one man and his wife (Adam and Eve) and the subsequent disaster that ensued when men and angels decided to disobey God. Our entire knowledge of the world before the flood is contained in 7 Chapters and about 4300 words. Some extra Biblical text such as The Book of Jubilees and The Book of Enoch, tend to fill in some of these gaps, but given the late dates at which they were authored, they must not be taken as the Word of God. I do draw on these text quite often however: to describe what many Jews believed and even what some of the early Jewish Christians believed. It is rather telling, that just about every culture in the world has a Flood type of story in their folklore and just about every people on the Earth can trace their lineage back to one of Noah’s three sons… and many still hold dear to those claims today. Even the ancient polytheism practiced by just about every pagan people and nation in the past, has eerie similarities to the stories of the disobedient angels as told in the Book of Jubilees and the Book of Enoch, which reportedly predates even the flood itself although that claim can be easily disputed.
The lack of direct historical record of the world before the flood and directly following the flood however, has not kept scholars in both science and theology from writing millions of words and thousands of books and papers to try and reveal some new or previously unknown facts about the pre-diluvium world. There have been volumes written on things such as:
-
What was the Mark of Cain? Who were the Nephilim?
-
What is meant by the “The sons of God and Daughters of Men?
-
Where did Cain’s wife come from?
-
If Cain was the first son, who was living in the land of Nod that he should be afraid of them?
These are but a few questions that scholars have been trying to answer for hundreds of years. Most have stayed within the realm of reasonable thought with their expositions, but others are so far out there they need a space suit to breath.
As Christians, we have for far too long refused to accept the fact that long before the Genesis story was written down, it was an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation. For over 2500 years this story was passed down as an oral tradition. The Book of Jubilees tells us that Moses was given the story by an Angel on Mount Sinai at the same time God gave him the laws. But Jubilees was written sometime between 135 and 105 B.C. so we cannot take that as anything more than tradition rather than fact. Tradition tells us that Moses was the writer of Genesis, and that has been believed and accepted for nearly 3500 years now. There is no direct documented evidence of that today, as the oldest surviving fragments of the Torah date to around 500 B.C. But since Christ never disputed this belief, and Christ was God, then we also must accept it. However, that does not change the fact that there are some small evidences that the oral traditions allowed some mythology and misinformation to make its way into the story as well. But for the most part, the evidence of the accuracy of Genesis in relation to topics such as The Table of Nations is remarkable as Archeologist continue to find evidence for the historical accuracy of Genesis and other books of the Bible almost every day.
In researching my Witness Chronicles series, I’ve read countless papers and books and versions of the Bible to try and understand for myself, what God is telling us in this small but important glimpse into our lost history. My intent with this site is simply to shed some light on some of the mysteries of creation and to explain what I believe it was like to live in the days before and directly after the great flood of Noah.
There are many misunderstandings and some outright wrong theological beliefs springing from the first few chapters of Genesis. I hereby offer my explanation and dissection of these topics for your respectful consideration.
